Great Job on Greek Speeches!

I really enjoyed seeing your speeches. You clearly learned a lot about Greek mythology and also gained some valuable experience in speaking in front of a group. I know it took guts, and you did a great job! We’ll continue to work on increasing our volume and expression, making our pacing sound natural and smooth, and fixing nervous habits like pacing, swaying, and using “speech fillers.”

Practice Greek Speeches!

Practice, memorize, and prepare speeches paying special attention to volume, enunciation, inflection, pitch (modulation), eye contact, posture, and pacing. Record self and watch/listen back to make needed adjustments.

PRESENTATIONS WILL BE ON FEBRUARY 2nd AND 3rd!

Regarding the costume, please do not feel the need to spend money. Challenge yourself to be creative; every single costume can be effectively done with cardboard, aluminum foil, and a carefully draped bedsheet or tablecloth. Empty wrapping paper tubes can be doctored into great swords or spears…cut an old hula hoop in half and run twine through it for a bow…

And remember, the costume is only ONE out of EIGHT components to be graded. You could have the world’s greatest costume and still earn a D if you are unprepared, are missing information, or fail to maintain eye contact……OR you could have an awful costume and earn an A because your volume and enthusiasm engaged us all! In summary, don’t spend too much time on the costume–they’re just for fun. You should be spending your time rehearsing again and again and again and again and again.
