Hello All Star students and parents,

The All Star teachers would like to take the opportunity to welcome you to the All Star Team and let you know a little bit about ourselves.

First, we believe that communication and parent involvement are key factors in student achievement.  We also believe in establishing a safe learning environment with consistent routines.  Before starting the 2008-2009 school year, we would like to share the All Star Vision:  The 6th grade All Star Team will provide a positive environment that encourages academic achievement, self management, and an appreciation for the learning process.

Next, we would like to introduce each of your All Star teachers:

Mrs. Assing Schroeder is the intervntion specialist.  She is excited to be teaching at Mayfield Middle School on the All Star Team! While she is new to Mayfield, she is not a rookie teacher. She has taught second, fifth, seventh and eighth grade. This will be her third year teaching sixth grade. Most recently, she taught seventh and eighth grade in Euclid City Schools for six years. She graduated from Cleveland State University in 1996 with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education. She also completed her Masters program at Cleveland State University, in 2003. She lives in Cleveland Heights with her husband, David, and two sons, Riley who is five and just started kindergarten and Christian who is three and in preschool.

Mrs. Mayerthe social studies teacher on the team, is beginning her third year at the Middle School and also serves as a student council advisor.  Mrs. Mayer and her husband, Keith, got a new puppy in June and spent most of the summer training Mac.  She looks forward to meeting you and working with you soon.

Mr. Dadante will be your science teacher. He is eager to start his 13th year at the middle school and has taught in the 5th and 6th grades.  For most of his years at the Middle School he has been teaching science, but he has also taught math, social studies and language arts.  In addition, he has coached a number of sports in Mayfield including wrestling, football, and baseball. He will be coaching wrestling at the 7th and 8th grade level during the 2008-2009 school year.  Mr. Dadante has had an awesome summer!  His most memorable moments include spending time with his wife and two children.  James will be turning six years old and his daughter, Gabriella, is currently 18 months old.

Mrs. McKay, will be your language arts teacher this year and she also serves as a student council advisor.  She spent most of her summer preparing her home for a new baby.  She and her husband, Erik, are expecting their first child in November.  Mrs. McKay loves to read in her free time and hopes to instill in all of her students a love for reading.  She is looking forward to her fifth year of teaching at Mayfield Middle School and can’t wait to meet everyone in August.

Mrs. Monro is the Gifted Intervention Specialist at the middle school.  She is starting her eleventh year at Mayfield Middle School and looks forward to exploring new academic challenges with the All Star Team.  The high point of her summer was traveling with her husband, Bill, to see their new grandson in California.

Mrs. Rateno is looking forward to her eleventh year of teaching 6th grade math at Mayfield Middle School.   Her goal as a math teacher is to help all of her students become self-directed, confident problem-solvers who have an appreciation for mathematics and its role in their everyday lives.  Mrs. Rateno’s favorite after school activities include golfing, walking her dog Bogey, and playing with her 2 year old daughter Karianne.  Mrs. Rateno is also expecting a child in December.  She is very anxious to begin a fun and exciting year with all of you!

Mrs. Urbas is the hearing impaired teacher on the All Star Team.  She has been working in Mayfield for 9 years.  Most of my time has been in sixth grade at the Middle School, though I taught 2nd grade at MCHI for one year.  I currently teach langauge arts and math to students with hearing impairements and am in the classroom for social studies and science.  Within the classroom, I help the teacher with ALL students!  When not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband and my two year old daughter Zoë.

Mrs. Witte is the tutor on the All Star Team.  She is new to Mayfield this year but has several years of teaching experience in several surrounding states.  She looks forward to working with students within the science and social studies classroom.

As the year progresses, we will have many wonderful experiences and opportunities to learn and grow as a team.

The All Star teachers are looking forward to an exciting year with you and your child!
