Miss Parks seemed to have everything going for her… she loved her job teaching, her cottage by the sea, and especially Autumn. Then one night there was a terrible storm, and Autumn disappeared. Miss Parks and her students looked everywhere for little Autumn. After several weeks, they began to believe she was gone forever. They were wrong! I love Patricia Polacco books! She is a great resource to use for mentor texts with writing. She writes what she knows! I used this book to demonstrate realistic fiction writing and also to review several reading strategies. The kids loved it!

I really enjoyed this book. It’s interesting that a comment, a picture, or even a cat can unexpectedly bring two people together who otherwise may have never met. Earlier this year, I was showing a picture of my dad to a fourth grade class and mentioned that he used to work for channel 5. One of the girls in the class said her grampa also worked for channel 5. I gave her my dad’s name, and it turned out they did work together. Now the girl’s grandpa and I talk all the time about my dad and channel 5. So as you can see, I made a connection with this book.
