If you like the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, I think you’ll like this one. The main character is a middle school boy who hates reading. He gives the reader 25 tips on how to avoid reading. In between, he tells the story of his brilliant plan to NOT read any books for school. Unfortunately, the plan backfires.
Tommy Greenwald wrote this book for his three sons … who hate reading. Their names are Charlie, Joe, and Jack. Did you notice he combined their names to create the main character’s name? How clever! Actually the whole book is very clever, so give it a try!

I read the book I Hate to Read by Rita Marshall to my students. It is a fun story about a boy named Victor Dickens who really hates to read. One night, he is looking at a book but really trying to watch TV when the characters come alive and catch his interest. He can’t stop reading the book and continues to see what each of the characters is going to say to him. He starts to like them, so he doesn’t really mind that he is missing his favorite TV show. He thinks about his dog eating the book and his class and teacher chanting “we hate to read” and then feels sad about all the characters he has met and truly feels sad that the story has to end.
I really liked this story and think you will find reading it very enjoyable……………maybe if you really don’t like reading like Victor, you might after this story.

Do you like confusing, mysterious, and fun books? This book takes place in a very old library containing every book ever written. Every night at this library, just like Night at the Museum, all the books and characters in the books come to life. Uh … ohhh! One book is missing. Actually it has been missing for 200 years. It is called How to Live Forever. So one night, a character from a book, Peter, wanders all around the library looking for the book. Then he runs into a very old man. The man shows him the “Ancient Child.” Peter asks the Ancient Child if he knows anything about the book, How to Live Forever. Does he know anything? Will Peter find the book? Read this fun, confusing, and mysterious book to find out.
