5. jenna - August 26, 2010

Over the summer, I read a really good book called ”Waiting For Normal.” I liked this book because there is a character with a problem. The character, Addie, is a really smart and generous girl. I also like this book because there are different emotions in the story and the author does a really good job of describing it. The book contains sad parts and happy parts, strong parts and weak and parts and most of the time it’s just waiting for normal.

8. Ani - August 26, 2010

I had a great summer visiting my home country for 2 months. Hence I read a few books. The best book I read was Brian’s Return by the author named Gary Paulsen. This book was part of the summer reading list. I liked this book because the plot was interesting and it had a lot of adventure and I like books that have a lot of adventure. The setting of this book took place in the woods and it had some interesting facts about animals. Also, it had some unexpected twists and turns which were really thrilling to read.

The next book I read was, The Seven Keys of Balabad. It did not catch my attention very much because it did not seem exciting to read and the plot was not that interesting. The setting of the story took place in an ancient city in Afghanistan called Balabad. Also, the story was confusing and hard to understand.

9. Elizabeth G. - August 26, 2010

This summer I read Tennyson by Lesley M. M. Blume. I liked Tennyson because of the plot , characters setting and the genre history.

10. Madison M. - August 26, 2010

14. kayla M - August 26, 2010

This summer I read Drums Girls and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick, It is a book on the summer reading list that I read. It was funny at first but, as I read though the story it was sad. But I loved and enjoyed it vary much, (and it was good).

15. Gabrielle J - August 26, 2010

I read Drums Girls and Dangerous Pie this summer. I really like this book because it had a message. That message is try not to focus on the thing you can’t change and try to focus on the thing you can change. This message is a little inspirational because we all need to start focusing on the positive things instead of focusing so much on negative things. Peace Out:)(;

16. mina - August 26, 2010

I read Waiting For Normal over the summer. It is the best book ever because it has suprising stuff in EVERY chapter. I hope alot of other 6th graders will read “Waiting For Normal” .

17. Allie R. - August 26, 2010

Over the summer I read two books. I read Loser by Jerry Spinelli and Eleven by Patricia Reilly Giff. Between the two of these books I liked Loser the most because it takes you through the Elementary and Middle School years of Donald Zinkoff. He is a clumsy, funny, and unusual student.

I also liked Eleven, which had great characters. The book takes place in a mysterious setting. When you read into Sam’s dreams you get to see into his past, which I thought what was really cool.

These were the two books that I read this summer.

18. Aren - August 26, 2010

One of my favorite books that I read over the summer was called Rissa Barholomew’s Declaration of Independance. I liked it because it was about a regular girl going through middle school. But she has some problems with friendship, so through the year she starts to step away from her old crowd and starts to make new friends, while becoming more independent as she goes along.

19. Shqiponja S - August 26, 2010

I read some books over the summer . I read Sideways Stories From Wayside School, Maniac Magee, Madison Finn, Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I liked the book called Diary of a Wimpy it had funny characters, a boy named Greg , and a pretty weird family. There isn’t a book I didn’t like.

20. sarah - August 26, 2010

I read a book called the 6th Grade Nickname Game. I thought it was a really good book because it tells you nicknames that you don’t know of and it was kind of a mystery because the two kids who are making the name are making the names really mean to the people.

21. akarsh - August 26, 2010

My favorite summer reading book is,”The Magic Thief” because it tells a story about a gutterboy who becomes a wizard and saves the city from losing al lthe magic. You will find it interesting once you start reading it. The other book I also liked was ,”Vampirates”. Its a story about two twins who get seperated in the ocean and how they reunite after aboarding 2 pirate ships, one twin in a pirate ship and the other in a vampirateship. There was nothing which I disliked.

22. jenna - August 26, 2010

Over the summer I read a really good book called “Waiting For Normal”. The reason I liked this book was because it has a lot of emotion and the author does a really good job describing it. Also the main character, Addie, is in a sticky situation and has a lot of family problems and I like reading about conflict. There are a lot of sad parts and happy parts, some strong and some weak, but most of the time it’s just waiting for normal.

23. Will - August 27, 2010

I read the book called Mystery Codes and Ciphers. I like it because it had good information, a lot of codes and and things to know about codes, and I liked when it said the people were trying to hide themselves and talk and write in this weird code. I dislike the part when it said the vase had a code and it only talked about the vase broke.

24. Audrey - August 27, 2010

I read All Of the Above, and I also read Nellie Olson Meets Laura Ingalls. They were both great books. Out of the two my favorite was All Of the Above, it was a clif-hanger from begining to end, I would say it is made with great lititure, I was wrapped around its finger instantly.

25. Maddie L. - August 27, 2010

I enjoyed my summer reading. I read Brians Winter and part of River they were both very good. I enjoyed Brians Winter more than River because in Brians Winter Brian was alone and I liked that about the book. He also had a great memory that I thought would come in handy. He was stuck in a scenario where he needed something to hunt with and remembered that he had saw a spear in a musem and remembered what they looked like. So he made some spears and started to hunt. In River what I didn’t like was that he was with another man and was just teaching him how to live in the wild. I think I like it better when he is surviving not just teaching someone how to survive. I loved my summer reading and look forward to finishing River.

26. Nikki - August 27, 2010

This summer I read the book called Something To Blog About. I really liked the book because it had an intresting plot with lots of things going around. It relates to middle school too, so it was a good book to read over summer before middle school. It had some of the same classes in the book that we have at MMS , like computer skills, health, and French.

27. Mrs. Miller - August 27, 2010

Reading is one of my favorite summer activities! While I love to read books just for myself, this summer, I spent a lot of time reading with my daughter and son. My daughter enjoyed the American Girl books about Kit, Rebecca and Julie while my son liked Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel. We also read Little House on the Prairie, Hotel for Dogs, the Magic Treehouse series, and many others. It was fun sharing books that I enjoyed when I was younger with my children and finding new books to read together.

While we were reading, my children and I also talked about what we liked or didn’t like in the stories. My daughter liked the American Girl books because they showed her what life was like in the past. She had fun reading about someone who grew up when my parents (her grandparents) were little and then talking with them about their memories of the time.

28. Madison L. - August 27, 2010

I read The School story by Andrew Clements. It was a really good book it was for sure one of my top five favorite books. I liked it soo much because there wasn’t a dull moment where something wasn’t happenin. I love when stories are full of action, not when it goes boring kool and repeat. I would recommened this book to anyone who likes school fiction and humor.

29. Jae Won - August 27, 2010

I read the Red Pyramid and Charlie Bone and The Red Knight. I liked both of them. The Red Pyramid was awesome. I liked it because it was fun and detailed. Another reason was that it was long. 41. cade - August 29, 2010

This summer i read the book Loser by Jerry Spinelli.I really liked this book because of the main character Donald Zinkof. I like him because he is different. He is different because he loves school and he wants to be a mailman when he grows up. My favorite part is when Donald Zinkof is in the championship game in a recreational soccer league, and some one kicks the ball, it hits Donalds head and goes in to the goal to win the game. Thats the book I read over summer break.

42. Ben - August 29, 2010

One book I read over the summer was Tunnels. Tunnels is the first book in a series. It is an adventure and I found that once I started I could not put it down. One fascinating fact about the book is that it has two authors. I would love to know more about how that process worked. I am currently working on Deeper, which is the next book in the series.

The one I liked the most was the Percy Jackson series, because it’s humorous with adventure and fantasy and an exciting plot. I love the way the author (Rick Riordan) writes and describes parts in the book and how it’s told in first person.

56. Ryan V. - August 30, 2010

I read a book called The Graveyard book. I really liked it because there was a lot of info, you could easily keep track of the main characters, and it had a equal amount of action, mystery, and adventure. There was absolutely nothing I didn’t like about the book.I’m going to tell you a little summary of the book. The book is about a boy named Nobody Owens(called Bod for short). At the start of the story, Bod is a toddler who witnessed the murdering of his family by the mysterious man named Jack.Bod escaped the his house before Jack could catch him. Then he stumbled into a nearby graveyard. While he is in the graveyard, the ghosts and supernatural creatures ”adopted” Bod to protect him from Jack. While Bod is in the graveyard protected, Jack’s associate will stop at nothing to try to kill Bod.

57. Amber - August 30, 2010

This summer I read Dork Diaries parts 1 and 2. I liked both of them but I think I liked the second part better because it was funnier and it told more about Nikki Maxwell’s life. 58. quinn s. - August 30, 2010

I read a book called Loser, I read this book besause I heard it was a good book. And the main part I liked in Loser, was field day where zinkoff lost field day and Gary Hobin got all mad. And the next field day Gary Hobin got Znkoff and he treid to get rid of him. At the end it was a good book. I would really tell other people to read Loser.

59. larry - August 30, 2010

I read the book Hatchet. That would be very scary to be stranded alone. I think I would have freaked out,but I would have made my shelter ,found some food, and most importantly survived with my Hatchet.

60. Edward b - August 30, 2010

During the summer I read the books The best Bad Luck I Ever Had and Half Moon Investigations. The first book was about a kid living a long time ago. White people hated colored ones and people say not to hang out with them. The kid at first hated her but than he started to like her. This is a really good book, it’s one of my favorites. The other book was about a boy that loved to investigate and all this stuff happens that he had to investigate or he can wind up in jail!

61. Yann - September 10, 2010

This summer, I read The Giver. I found this book interesting first because their community is very different from ours. For example, children are not allowed to ride a bike before age 9, children can’t choose their job but have to start a job at age 12. If someone has twins, they have to kill the lighter one because everyone has to be different in the community. Parents can’t even choose the names of their children. Older people are “released” after a certain age, a way of killing them, so that the community doesn’t become over-populated. I also found it interesting to know about the Giver. Jona gets the job of receiving the memories from the past. This job would not exist in our community!

62. Jenny - September 10, 2010

This year I read two books called LOSER and ELEVEN. I felt bad for Zinkoff because everybody called him a loser. None wants to be called that! In ELEVEN, a girl’s birthday was comeing up. She was scared being eleven, but why? Then the story began.

63. Kyle S - September 12, 2010

Over the summer I read a book called Heat by Mike Lupica. I felt bad for Michael because him and his 17 year old brother Carlos’s father had died and they had try to stay together until Carlos turned 18 so that they could live together legally without getting put into a foster home. Michael was very good at baseball he could throw 80 miles per hour and he was only 12. I would definitely recommend it to anybody that likes sport books.

64. kaleigh koski - September 13, 2010

This summer I read the book called Loser. the book Loser is about a kid named Zinckof who is trying to get through 12 years of school. At first the teachers thought he was a good student, Then over the years Zinckof started to fall apart. He got bad grades and did not listen in class. Soon when it came to field day he lost the game for his team. His team started chanting “loser, loser, loser”. To everyone else Zinckof was no oradanairy kid but at the end he changes peoples minds by looking for a lost girl.

65. Marissa S - September 14, 2010

This summer I read Twilight. I have read it before but reading it again helped me catch things that I may have missed before. It is a really good book and is really interestng. I love the description Stephanie Meyer gives of all the details. It is really an amazing book.

66. Matthew T - September 15, 2010

One of the books that I read over the summer was “Extra Credit” by Andrew Clements. It was about a girl named Abby who was going to get held back in 6th grade unless she improved her grade. She decided to do a project for extra credit. For the project she wrote to a pen pal in Afghanistan. The pen pal was a boy, but he asked his sister to correspond with Abby. He thought it would be more appropriate for girls to communicate with each other. Abby always thought that her pen pal was a girl until one day she received a letter from the boy himself. He had decided to write her. Then she realized her real pen pal was a boy. I think the book is very interesting. I like how the book described the boy’s and the girl’s sides of the story.
