Global Worming March 5, 2009
Posted by rgardner in : A.C.E. , trackbackThe team of Bob Chapline (now attending ATI\Ohio State University), Kayla Mahone , Josh Kovach (currently on a landscape crew in Florida), and Michelle Weissman (currently at Pittsburg Institute) earned a first place finish at the College Tech Prep Showcase last March with their presentation Global Worming.
Vermiculture is making usable plant media from ordinary kitchen scraps with a little help from worms! The team was then asked to present the showcase in Cincinnati at the NTPC. Kayla Mahone, Bob Chapline, and Kristin Clarke traveled to Cincinnati with Ms. Gardner.
Since the initial success of our vermiculture lab, we have now made a ’see-through’ lab. With grant monies awarded to us from the Mayfield Business Alliance, students constructed a ‘worm house’ made of plexiglass. We now have 4000 Red Wiggles. They eat about 14 pounds of kitchen scraps a week! Stop by and check it out!
