Results are in…Nursery Landscape State Finals March 5, 2009
Posted by rgardner in : Competitions, Landscape & Turf Operations , add a commentThe team of Brandon Hoover, Frank Tarulli, Chris Weist, and Tom Warner qualified to participate in the FFA Nursery and Landscape State Finals. The contest was held in Columbus, Ohio earlier in the weeks. The students placed 9th as a team. There are four main components of the contest. Students were required to operate a Bobcat Skidsteer, change attachments, and maneuver the machine without spilling the load. Since our center does not own a Bobcat, we were able to utilize members of the industry for the training. Students were then asked to complete a pre-operative check of a zero-turn mover and maneuver it through an obstacle course. Last year we were able to purchase a zero-turn mower for the students to operate and maintain. Next on the test, solve a drainage and grading problem while utilizing a relief map. Students were also expected to plant a tree to specifications.
